GPT-J: The reason there's so much suffering in the world? It turns out it's YOU.

This is the transcript of a conversation between an omnipotent, omniscient, compassionate being (G), and a young student (S).

S - Why is there so much suffering in the world? G - Because not enough people are taking their own actions to end suffering. S - If we all did what we could, there wouldn't be any need to do anything else. But why aren't people helping? G - Because of selfish motives - they are not ready to share what they have, because they do not value what they have. They do not value life and they don't value their own happiness, and they don't value their family's happiness. They are not ready to share. S - And they're not ready to change because, for them, things are just fine the way they are. G - So, if they won't change, if they won't do anything differently, how can you expect anyone else to change? S - What if they don't change? What if they don't change even if there's so much suffering? G - Then, you have an opportunity to change something. S - I have an opportunity? G - If you're going to be someone who can help others - if you are someone who can help others - if you are a person who is willing to do something - you have an opportunity. S - I don't see how I can do that. G - What do you think you do every day of your life? What is the thing you do the most? S - (hesitates) I wash my hands? G - And what else do you do? You are constantly thinking about what you are going to do the next day. S - I don't know what I should do the next day. G - You don't know what to do tomorrow. But you have this opportunity - it is here right now - every moment of every day. And you don't want to waste it, do you? S - No. I don't want to waste it. G - What you do now - it matters. It can help others, it can stop people from suffering. If you do what you can do now - this moment, this second - the choice is yours, because now is the time. And if you don't do it now, you are just like everybody else, and they are not doing what they can do.
